Environmental News:
SCHNORR®
offers worldwide
compliance to RoHS, WEEE, and Directive on End
of Life Vehicles requirements.
The RoHS
Directive (Restriction of certain
Hazardous Substances) of the
European Union
2002/95/EC
regulates the restriction and use of hazardous
substances. It prohibits the use of certain
hazardous substances in electric and electronic
appliances after July 2006.
The WEEE
Directive (Waste from Electrical
and Electronic Equipment)
2002/96/EC
and the amendment
2003/108/EC
concerns re-processing,
sorting, and processing of products not
complying with the directive. The laws were
passed in 2004.
According
to the Directive on End of Life Vehicles all
cars and utility vehicles up to 3.5 tons in the
EU must be disposed of in an environmentally
friendly manner and recycled at the end of their
lives. This is demanded by the EU Directive on
End of Life Vehicles
2000/53/EC
is also referred to as
ELV Directive (End of Life
Vehicles).
SCHNORR®
lock washers,
conical spring washers and contact washers with
the following surface coatings were affected as
follows:
-
Previous galvanic and mechanical
yellow and white zinc coating will be
replaced by a corresponding galvanization
with subsequent thick film passivation.
-
Dacromet surface coating will be
replaced with the Cr6-free alternative
Geomet.
-
The chemical nickel-plated,
lead-containing surface coatings Durnicoat
470 and 520 will be replaced with the Pb-free
surfaces Durnicoat 471 and 571.
After
comprehensive trials we have reached a technical
standard that allows supply with equivalent
alternatives. The dark blue columns represent
the new CrVI-free surfaces.
